My Approach
My practice of naturopathic medicine is borne of a great passion for nature and individuality. In therapeutic relationships I work to listen to the true nature of each patient so that healing can take place in a personalized and holistic way. I see the main goals of treatment as being a reconnection to ourselves and achieving a balance within and between our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects. Often, these values lead to a 'back to basics' approach to care, focusing on nutrition and lifestyle, herbs and nature cures, centering and change. I offer an open minded healthcare space and hope that patients come sharing this ideal.
My Background
I grew up on the east coast of Canada (Prince Edward Island to be exact) and I am very happy, after having made my way across the country, to be living and working on the beautiful west coast. I attended Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, completing an honors degree in biology (ecology and anatomy). I then took my naturopathic training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, graduating in 2012. My first practice was a community acupuncture clinic in Toronto, followed by a private practice with a focus on integrative microscopy in Saskatoon.
Our medicine
For me the root of naturopathic medicine is personal power. A naturopathic doctor’s primary task is to assist each patient remember and re-align their own innate ability to heal. Medical treatment built on this basis enables each person to engage in and take responsibility for their own health. Such a relationship also allows us to see the individuality in each person and to promote a sharing in clinical decisions, because we believe that people know their bodies better than anyone else.
A naturopathic physician works with the healing power of nature by utilizing natural remedies and techniques that stimulate the same force within each patient. Fundamental nutrition, exercise and the fostering of a healthy mental, emotional, and spiritual life are the foundations of our work. Herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy and advanced supplementation are examples of modalities a ND can use to augment and build upon a foundation which may be “under construction”.
