I learned to walk, talk and play on Salt Spring Island so healthy living and outdoor activities flow within my veins. My passion has always been helping people and solving complex problems — like Sherlock Holmes, but with humour and empathy. From February 2013 until December 2016, I ran my own family practice clinic on Salt Spring Island. Now I am focusing on my main passion and area of training: integrative cancer care.

Cancer Care

I have lost too many loved ones to cancer. My first big loss was my maternal grandpa to cancer. Then my childhood best friend’s mom, who was like a second mom to me when I was a boy, died of cancer in 2001. This galvanized in me my decision: to study Naturopathic Medicine and strive to provide better cancer care. The need for this has been reinforced since losing my aunt-in-law to colon cancer while I was completing my Naturopathic Doctor’s training at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM). After graduating, I mentored and practiced with Dr. Neil McKinney, ND, Oncology Professor, and International Cancer Lecturer, at Vital Victoria Naturopathic Clinic from 2012 to 2015.

I provide integrative care for all forms and stages of cancer. I can support you or your loved ones through chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, in preventing cancer reoccurrence, and — whenever possible — preventing cancer from occurring in the first place. I am proud to consult with Naturopathic Doctors across Canada to provide the best individualized cancer care plans for their patients.

Other Areas of Focus

Besides cancer, my practice focuses on anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), recovery from brain injuries (such as post-concussion) and longevity. Part of my health journey was to overcome my own longstanding anxiety and later PTSD after a particularly messy chapter of my life in my mid 20s. My interest in brain injuries is more recent after supporting the recovery of a close friend and several patients with concussions. I saw them all struggle due to inadequate care from the hospital and their primary physicians.

My Journey

In 2012, my wife and I returned to Salt Spring Island, to found Island Natural Health Naturopathic Clinic. While it is a fervent passion to help people overcome cancer that has defined me in my early career as a Naturopathic Doctor, it is with heartfelt thanks to my loving wife for putting me on this path in the first place. There was a time not so long ago where I was a struggling pre-med student at UBC who had never heard of Naturopathic Medicine. It turned out my early passions of preventative healthcare, nutrition and sports were at the heart of Naturopathic Medicine and I just had not known it until my wife introduced me to it. My deepest gratitude to her for supporting my dream of opening my own Naturopathic Clinic and me every step of the way during school and now my career.
