Dr. Attema completed her naturopathic education at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster, BC. She began her studies at the University of Ottawa where she completed her BScHon in Human Kinetics and then completed a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. During her graduate studies, she had the opportunity to work on a large clinical trial examining the effects of exercise on metabolic parameters in those with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Born in Europe, Dr. Attema was exposed to complementary therapies at an early age and quickly became fascinated with natural medicine. Dr. Attema is passionate about Naturopathic medicine and strongly believes in the innate healing power of the body. She believes that patient education and empowerment are key to patient health and success. Dr. Attema tailors her treatment plans to accommodate to her patients’ individual needs. She believes in the integration of both conventional and complementary medicines for a more comprehensive approach to health care.Dr. Attema has experience and a special interest in woman’s health, infertility, diabetes and metabolic conditions, weight loss, gastrointestinal health, and mental health. She treats her patients using botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutritional counseling, acupuncture, Bowen therapy, therapeutic injections including IV vitamin and minerals, exercise, and nutritional supplementation.
In her free time you will find Dr. Attema running, cycling, paddling, hiking, cross country skiing and other activities outside. She also enjoys trying and creating new recipes, reading and spending time with friends. Dr. Attema is licensed by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of B.C. (CNPBC) and is a member of the British Columbia Naturopathic Association (BCNA) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Medicine (CAND).
